Building a real estate empire: your choices
What are the ways to make money in real estate?
3 minute read
There is no single way. The main paths are:
1. Buy a home, move every couple of years, keep the old one as a rental. Slow, steady, uses cheaper owner-occupied loans.
2. Flip houses. Buy, fix, sell. Faster cash, more risk and work.
3. Be a landlord. Buy rentals for monthly income and long-term value.
4. Lend to other investors (notes). You are the bank. More passive, but you must know who you lend to.
5. Ground-up construction. Build new. Biggest upside, longest timeline, most experience needed.
Why this matters
Each path fits a different timeframe, amount of cash, and level of involvement. Pick the one that fits your life.
What to do with this
- Match a path to your timeframe and how hands-on you want to be.
- Keep your 6 to 12 month cushion before buying.
- Read the lesson for the path you picked.
