Crypto: what to know before you buy

Should I invest in crypto?

2 minute read

Crypto (like Bitcoin) is digital money that runs without a bank. Its price can swing 50% or more in a year.

It is not FDIC insured. If an exchange fails or you lose your password, the money can be gone.

Scams are common. Nobody legit will guarantee returns or ask you to send crypto to “unlock” something.

If you buy, treat it as a small, high-risk slice. Many people keep it to 5% or less of their investments.

Why this matters

Crypto can grow fast, but it can also fall fast. It should come after your cushion and your core investments.

What to do with this

  • Build your cushion and core investing first.
  • Only put in money you could lose without hurting your life.
  • Use a well-known U.S. exchange and turn on two-factor login.
